Affiliate & advertising disclosure

The short version Some links on CostMyProject may earn us a commission if you buy through them, and we may show display ads. This never changes our numbers — calculator math is computed from independent price data, not from who pays us.

Affiliate links

CostMyProject participates in affiliate programs, which means some outbound links — for example, links to paint or tools you can buy — may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Programs we use or plan to use include Amazon Associates and retailer affiliate programs.

In line with the FTC's endorsement guidelines:

Affiliate links are identified near the link itself, not buried on this page alone.
We only link to products relevant to the project being costed.
Affiliate relationships never influence calculator defaults, brand comparisons, or rankings. Our paint brand comparison, for example, is computed from shelf prices and coverage specs — the same math applies whether or not a brand has an affiliate program.

Display advertising

We plan to run display ads (starting with Google AdSense) to keep the calculators free. Ads are served by the ad network and labeled as advertising. We don't sell ad placements directly to the brands we compare, and advertisers can't pay to change our content or calculator outputs.

No paid placement in tools

Brands cannot pay to appear as a default in our calculators, to be ranked higher in comparisons, or to have their prices shown preferentially. If we ever accept any form of paid placement, it will be explicitly labeled "Sponsored" — and it will never touch the math.
