We're the people behind every calculator and cost guide on this site. We're independent researchers focused on one thing: what home projects actually cost, backed by dated numbers you can verify.
How we work
Every price on this site goes through the same process:
- We collect current prices from manufacturer spec sheets, retailer listings, Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, and industry reports like the JLC Cost vs. Value report.
- We date-stamp everything. Every page shows when its prices were last checked. Stale numbers are worse than no numbers.
- We show the math. Our calculators don't hide behind a single magic number — each one breaks the estimate into line items so you can see exactly where the money goes.
- We use ranges, not false precision. Costs vary by region and project, so we give ±25% planning ranges instead of pretending a single figure fits everyone.
What we don't do
- We don't sell leads or share your information — there are no contact forms harvesting phone numbers.
- We don't take payments from contractors to rank them or their prices.
- We don't publish a number we can't source or explain.
